Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Maternity Support Worker to join the Maternity services at East Cheshire NHS Trust, working across both the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Unit. The role involves providing high-quality, family-focused maternity care under the supervision of a registered midwife. The post holder will deliver direct clinical care to women and newborn infants, including infant feeding support and assessing clinical wellbeing. This role requires participation in a flexible 24-hour shift pattern, including nights.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate evidence of Senior Clinical Support Worker competencies (appendix 1)
- Demonstrates good insight into roles and responsibilities of the post
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care
- Working as part of a team
- Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of quality care
- Evidence of Band 2 competency
- Be competent in the recording of clinical sign observations
- Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills; within a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
- Demonstrates literacy and numeracy skills
- Able to present factual information and refer to questions to others where appropriate
- Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy
- Basic IT skills e.g. e-mail
Desirable criteria
- Venepuncture competent
- Cannulation competent
- ECG competent
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Awareness of the role and duties of other maternity professionals such as midwives.
- NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) Level 3 in Healthcare/ Direct care or T Level in Healthcare
- Care certificate
- Successful completion of the Be AWARE to Care course (or equivalent)
- GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) English and Maths (or equivalent such as level 2 functional skills)
- Previous experience within healthcare / care setting
- Previous experience in speciality
- Experience working in a theatre setting
- Specific Job Requirements
- Self-motivated
- Willing to learn new skills
- Caring and compassionate attitude
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Able to manage time efficiently and prioritise allotted workload.

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Maternity Support Worker to join our Maternity services, working across both the Antenatal Clinic and the Maternity Unit.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Maternity support worker with a passion to provide high quality family focused maternity care to our women and families of East Cheshire.
The role of the Maternity Support Worker is to work under the supervision and direction of a registered midwife to provide the highest possible standard of essentially care for women/birthing people and their families.
The post holder will provide direct delivery of clinical care to all women and newborn infants accessing maternity services and may be based within specialist and integrated teams such as in theatre. Maternity Support Workers may also serve as a point of contact for women/birthing people and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support; they provide appropriate information and signpost to other health sector organisations. They report directly to registered practitioners where planned care and tasks delegated by a registered practitioner has been provided. The post holder is required to participate in a flexible 24-hour shift pattern including nights.
