Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team as a CYP-PT (Recruit to Train Trainee) within the NHS England funded Children and Young People Psychological Training Programmes. The role involves delivering evidence-based interventions for children, young people, and families, with a focus on supporting autistic individuals and those with learning disabilities. It combines employment within Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust with postgraduate training at University College London. The successful candidate will manage a supervised training caseload, assess referrals, and deliver therapeutic interventions.
Essential criteria
- Qualifications that demonstrate a capacity to complete academic work at postgraduate diploma level.
Desirable criteria
- Minimum second-class bachelor's degree from a UK University or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g., psychology, social work etc).
- OR Applicants who do not fulfil the academic criteria but with relevant professional experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered on a case- by-case basis.
- Experience working within a CBT framework and/or using CBT informed interventions (e.g., PWP, CWP, EMHP and Parent Trainer).
- Experience and knowledge of managing issues relating to risk and safeguarding children and young people.
- Knowledge and understanding of the key features and symptoms associated with autism and/or learning disabilities
- Knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges experienced by autistic children and young people and/or those with learning disabilities and their families.
- Ability to maintain accurate clinical records.
- 2 or more years' experience working within a children and young people's mental health setting, for example as a mental health worker
- 1 year or more of clinical competence and experience working with autistic individuals and/or people with learning disabilities.
- Experience of multi-agency and/or multi-disciplinary working and liaising across internal & external agencies.
- Ability to work in a collaborative and respectful manner with children, young people, and their families.
- Ability to follow local policy and procedures (e.g., within a care pathway) and make proposals for change.

Our service has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a CYP-PT for (formally Recruit to Train Trainee), part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Children and Young People (CYP) Psychological Training Programmes in partnership with Anna Freud/University College London.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your learning from weekly teaching into practical clinical interventions working with clients in the service making a direct impact in the lives of children, young people and their families.
Please note: The position will be based within the Hertfordshire MHST (part of HPFT)but successful candidates will be expected to travel to Anna Freud in Central London (Rodney St, N1 9JH) for teaching during the training year.
