Role summary
This role is for an Integrated Midwife to provide excellent, individualised, evidence-based care to women, birthing people, and their families within the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The midwife will work flexibly across community and acute settings, participating in shifts including days and nights. Key responsibilities include acting as shift lead when required, managing obstetric emergencies, and maintaining high standards of midwifery practice. The position requires adherence to NMC guidelines and continuous professional development.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the integrated midwifery model, working across community and acute settings, including day and night shifts.
- Act as shift lead in the absence of a Clinical Lead Midwife and partake in multidisciplinary handovers.
- Participate in the on-call rota for hospital and community, promoting and facilitating home births.
- Confidently manage obstetric emergencies in both hospital and community settings.
- Maintain accurate, clear, and contemporaneous records of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Deliver and maintain a high standard of day-to-day evidence-based practice for all service users in the designated clinical area/caseload.
Essential criteria
- Current RM registration with the NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
- Certificate in mentorship/practice supervisor

- To be accountable for the overall provision of excellent individualised, evidence-based care to all women, birthing people and their families. To be a competent Midwife, working flexibly within the Midwifery Service and within The Code (NMC, 2018) as an autonomous professional practitioner.
- Maintaining compliance with service standards, policies, and guidelines so that effective and safe care is always provided
Main duties of the job
- To participate in the integrated midwifery model working within both community and all areas of the acute setting working shifts, including day and night shifts.
- To partake in the morning multidisciplinary handover in the absence of a Clinical Lead Midwife.
- To act as shift lead in the absence of a Clinical Lead Midwife.
- Participate in the on-call rota for both hospital and community as part of the escalation process as well
