Role summary
This role involves transferring critical care patients to and from Intensive Critical Care provision safely and efficiently as part of the ACCESS team. You will operate a specialist vehicle, driving under emergency conditions, to transport the medical team and patient across London. The position requires ensuring the vehicle and equipment are safe and appropriately stocked. Training for this role includes classroom and emergency response driving courses.
Essential criteria
- Level 2 Functional skills in Maths and English or GCSE equivalent (A-C, 4-9)
- Demonstrable interpersonal communication and social skills (including non-verbal)
- Knowledge and Skills
- Full current driving licence, valid in the UK, with a maximum of 3 penalty points.
- C1 category driving licence.
- Personal Abilities

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the London Ambulance Service as part of the ACCESS team totransfer critical care patients to and from Intensive Critical Care provision in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
What is ACCESS?
ACCESS is an NHSE London commissioned Critical Care Transfer and Retrieval service hosted by Barts Health and delivered collaboratively by London Operational Delivery Networks in partnership with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The service provides a dedicated and fully equipped mobile intensive care team for patients requiring inter-facility transfers whilst receiving ongoing organ support.
Working with experienced clinical colleagues you will be operating a specialist vehicle to transfer the medical team across London and beyond. You will be driving under emergency conditions to provide a smooth and safe transfer of the team and patient, ensuring the vehicle and team are safe and appropriately equipped.
There is 1 course planned based at our Brentside Education Centre. This starts on 19th October 2026 and will consist of 3 weeks of classroom training, which will result in the Ambulance Service First Responder on Scene (AFROS) qualification, followed by a 4 week Emergency Response Driving course whi
