Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse to join the York Special School Nursing Team. The role involves working with children and young people with complex health needs and Special Educational Needs (SEND) in various settings, including schools and homes. Responsibilities include writing reports, implementing care plans, health promotion, and delivering training. The successful candidate will be fully supported with continuous professional development.
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse (Child, Adult, Learning Disability, Mental Health) with relevant experience of working with children and young people with complex health needs
- Willing to undergo training as necessary
- Ability to demonstrate and explain skills to other staff

- Special knowledge
- Current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
- Principles of family centred care
- Awareness of speciality in managing complex health needs e.g. epilepsy
- Practical Skills
- Good written and verbal skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload.
- Understanding of skills and knowledge required to develop team members
- Practical nursing skills and autonomous working
- Personal Attributes
- Enthusiastic and self motivated
- Committed to working with people
- Flexible, adaptable Ability to work as part of a team
- Demonstrate a commitment to self development
- Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
- Has a driving licence and is able to travel independently around the area.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse with experience of working with children and young people with complex health needs to join the York Special School Nursing Team.
The candidate will have experience of caring for children and young people with complex health needs and Special Educational Needs (SEND) who has a passion for supporting and improving the lives of children, young people and their families with additional needs. They will ideally have experience of managing gastrostomy/stoma care, wound care, diabetes, epilepsy, bowel & bladder, as well as writing EHCP's and care plans, though full training will be given to the successful candidate.
You will be fully supported in this role and have opportunity to access continuous professional development, staff within the team are supported to find suitable training which will develop their skills and enhance the service that we provide.
The current hours of operation for the service are Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00, the special school nursing service works 52 weeks per year, including over the school holidays.
