Role summary
This role assists practitioner psychologists in delivering specialist applied psychology services within Brent Core CAMHS. The post holder will provide clinical work, including assessments and interventions, under direct supervision. Responsibilities also include clinical administration, conducting audits, collecting statistics, and contributing to research and teaching. The role focuses on maintaining high quality standards in line with national guidelines and Trust policies.
Key responsibilities
- Provide psychological assessments for clients under the close supervision of a practitioner psychologist, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, and interviews.
- Deliver protocol-based individual psychological interventions for clients within Brent CAMHS.
- Arrange, schedule, and provide protocol-based group psychological interventions, such as psycho-educative and early upskilling CBT groups.
- Assist psychologists in developing clinical or training materials.
- Arrange, schedule, and co-facilitate training for carers or employees of partner agencies to support clinical work.
- Ensure quality standards are met, adhering to policies, NICE guidelines, and the National CAMHS agenda.
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Sufficient post-graduate experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs in Child & Adolescent Mental Health care to be able to work clinically with close direct supervision.
- Post-graduate experience of conducting research projects or audits.
- Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience
- The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Graduate level knowledge of psychological research methodology and statistical analysis.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health concerns, neurodevelopmental differences and / or learning disabilities
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
- Skills in relevant psychological assessment and interventions that enable working as a pre qualified practitioner supervision
- Skills in providing supporting teaching and training provided by psychologists or others to other professional groups
- Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, participating in effective team functioning and holding team roles
- Ability to identify and follow relevant clinical governance procedures.
- Ability to maintain concentration and to remain in restricted positions for long periods during observations, assessments and psychological interventions.
- Ability to manage occasional emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self harming or aggressive behaviour.
- Ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to people who may have impediments to understanding
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis

- Experience of working within a CAMHS service
- Experience of the application of psychology within different cultural contexts
- Experience of administering either ADOS-2, ADI-R, 3Di, WISC-V, WNV or any other specialist psychology / cognitive assessments
- Experience using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis.
- High level of proficiency in working with software (such as Excel for designing spreadsheets) and other tools for analysing and reviewing routine outcome monitoring and questionnaire data.
- A desire to explore and pursue a career in Professional Psychology.
