Role summary
This internal-only role involves leading the development of holistic, high-quality care for patients with Hepatic Pancreatic Biliary/Upper Gastrointestinal cancers in North Cumbria. The post holder will coordinate diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, and follow-up, ensuring seamless service delivery across primary and secondary care. They will provide specialist information and support to patients and carers, acting as an expert resource for primary care teams. The role also includes initiating and participating in audit and research to improve patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the development of holistic, high quality, patient focused care for patients with Hepatic pancreatic Biliary/ Upper Gastrointestinal cancers.
- Co-ordinate the diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment and follow-up of these patients.
- Provide specialist information and support for patients and carers.
- Act as an expert resource for the primary care team.
- Initiate and participate in audit & research studies to monitor and improve outcomes.
- Be fully responsible for a cohort of patients, providing assessment, implementation, and evaluation of individual patient needs.
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Registered Nurse with current registration
- Bachelors Degree level study
- Experience in managing patients with Cancer
- Masters in Healthcare related subject or equivalent
- Experience of running independent nurse led clinics
- Extensive experience of working in GI services
- Experience of implementing policy, SOPs and operational processes
- In depth knowledge of quality assurance and delivering continued service improvement
- Experience of undertaking detailed, intensive work in a busy environment.
- Experience of dealing with critical incidents and complaints and managing patient expectations.
- Experience of clinical audit and research practice.
- Advanced awareness of NHS constitutional standards and the impact this has on service delivery for cancer and routine patient pathways
- Demonstrable experience of actively contributing to an MDT, advocating for patients and carers & communicating effectively with consultants, registrars and other members of the MDT.
- Delivery of highly specialist, intricate therapeutic clinical interventions Ability
- Demonstrate ability to work as an autonomous expert practitioner.
- Evidence of successful implementation of audit & research-based practice, demonstrating innovation in practice & change management skills
