Role summary
This role is for an experienced and motivated highly specialist Clinical Psychologist to join the Paediatric Psychology Service. The post involves working across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology, and Tuberous Sclerosis, providing psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for children and young people with physical illnesses. The psychologist will support families and multidisciplinary teams to improve adjustment, coping, and quality of life. It offers opportunities for service development, consultation, teaching, and supervision within a supportive team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based intervention for children and young people.
- Work collaboratively with families and professionals to improve adjustment, coping, treatment adherence, and quality of life.
- Contribute psychological expertise in outpatient and inpatient settings across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology, and Tuberous Sclerosis.
- Provide consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, deliver teaching and training.
- Supervise trainee and assistant psychologists and support psychologically informed care across children's services.
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate degree in psychology Post graduate Doctoral Degree in clinical psychology or equivalent recognised and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
- Current HCPC registration
- Experience of working with children and young people with complex presentations
- Experience and knowledge of working with safeguarding issues
- Ability to demonstrate working flexibly and independently in a high-pressure environment using highly complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with high distress and trauma where high level of sensitivity and skill required.
- Experience providing high quality supervision
- Experience delivering presentation, teaching and training
- Ability to work with highly distressed, traumatised people and remain calm in challenging situations
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods in order to provide therapy
- Able to work at computer.
- Demonstrated values that indicate values of compassion and respect as central to their practice.
Desirable criteria
- Post qualification training in a model appropriate to Paediatric Psychology e.g. EMDR, CBT ACT, Systemic Therapy Training in Supervision.
- Experience in paediatric psychology
- Experience working in an acute hospital trust
- Experience of different modes of working - e.g. group, behavioural management
- Experience developing service pathways
- Experience of staff work, including debriefs after a distressing incident
- Experience of cognitive and neuropsychological assessments
- Experience supervising trainee psychologists

We are seeking an experienced and motivated highly specialist Clinical Psychologist to join our Paediatric Psychology Service in an exciting split role working across General Paediatrics, Paediatric Oncology and Tuberous Sclerosis (TS - a lifespan service).
