Role summary

This role is for a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist to join an innovative team at North Middlesex University Hospital, part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms, assist with stress and transoesophageal echocardiograms, and support trainee echocardiographers. The position requires BSE TTE level 2 accreditation or equivalent and relevant NHS experience in cardiac physiology. It is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 6 months, covering maternity leave.

Essential criteria

  • BSc Cardiac science/physiology (or equivalent Life Sciences subject)
  • BSE or equivalent qualification in echocardiography
  • Registered with ACHS/PTP equivalence

Desirable criteria

  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc)/ eligible for STP equivalence
  • Substantial (+2yrs) post BSc qualification experience as a Cardiac Physiologist/echocardiographer
  • Good understanding of echocardiography techniques with independent ability to report scans to a high standard. Up to date with latest relevant clinical guidelines
  • Exposure to complex cases and ability to accurately assess their management.
  • Good knowledge/experience using 3D and strain imaging
  • Possession of audit process knowledge and outcome
  • Working knowledge of other cardiology investigations carried out in the CIU
  • Skills and aptitudes
  • Perform Transthoracic Echo independently, in accordance with BSE guidelines and department standards.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact as part of a team
  • Able to work calmly under pressure, maintaining a flexible approach.

Job summary

The successful applicant will join an innovative and expert team within the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, the post holder will be based at the echocardiography service at North Middlesex University hospital which has recently achieved departmental BSE TTE and training accreditation where candidate will participate in delivering the echo service.

The individual must hold a BSE TTE level 2 accreditation or equivalent and has relevant NHS experience in cardiacphysiology field. The individual will work alongside the team of 7 other accredited echocardiographers and with the wider cardiac physiology team to performtransthoracic echocardiograms as well as assist with stress andtransoesophageal echocardiograms.

As a teaching hospital the successful candidate will be expected to support ourtrainee echocardiographers to achieve their BSE accreditation. The echo service is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and also provides inpatient/outpatient weekend service. The individual will be expected to participate in this comprehensive servicewhilst a flexible working pattern can be supported.
