Role summary
This role involves providing expert clinical screening and telephone triage for urgent and specialist referrals within the Surrey-wide Access and Advice Team. You will use advanced clinical reasoning, risk assessment, and safeguarding knowledge to make autonomous decisions on referral prioritisation and allocation. The position requires flexibility and willingness to travel across Surrey as needed. It is an opportunity for an experienced Band 7 clinician committed to high-quality, child-centred care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert telephone screening and triage for urgent and specialist referrals.
- Assess clinical need, risk, safeguarding concerns and urgency using advanced clinical judgement.
- Make autonomous decisions regarding referral prioritisation and allocation.
- Allocate referrals to the most appropriate Surrey pathway.
- Develop safety plans and provide advice where appropriate, escalating urgent referrals in line with local guidance.
- Support Hub Screening Clinicians with routine referrals and provide clinical guidance to colleagues.
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration as RMN/RN (Mental Health)
- Significant post-registration experience working within Children and Young People's Mental Health Services
- Demonstrable experience of making autonomous clinical decisions
- Excellent communication skills
- Emotional resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervising or mentoring staff
- Knowledge and application of the i-THRIVE Framework
