Role summary
This role involves supervising the Domestic Services team at Royal Albert Edward Hospital, ensuring daily tasks are completed and maintaining high standards of cleanliness. The supervisor will manage staff rotas, provide training support, and ensure compliance with government and trust standards. Flexibility in working hours is required to cover various shift patterns.
Key responsibilities
- Allocate & organise day-to-day work tasks and activities, adjust staff rotas for unplanned absences and release of staff for training.
- Monitoring of performance of duties as laid down in work schedules.
- Training & assessment of staff in the use of equipment machinery, COSHH and cleaning materials as directed.
- Make spot checks on wards and Departments to check on cleaning standards.
- Audit cleaning standards to National Standards and Quality assurance procedures on wards and Departments, take corrective action when necessary.
- Handles complaints and takes preliminary action to resolve.
Essential criteria
- Able to work unsociable hours.
- Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
- Flexibility to provide cover for colleagues.
- The ability to work flexibly in accordance with service needs.
- Full knowledge of domestic cleaning protocols.
- Knowledge of hygiene, health & safety, COSHH regulations.
- Knowledge of staff supervision.
- Understanding of rota management and annual leave.
- Safe operation and use of a variety of cleaning equipment.
- Key board skills.
- Fully trained to National Cleaning Standards.
- Conversant with protocols in relation to infection control.
- Previous cleaning/domestic expereince.
- C.I.L.B City and Guilds N.V.Q Level 1&2 or equivalent qualification.
- Ability to demonstrate supervisory experience in a Domestic or equivalent role.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the Hospital site and departments within it.
- Knowledge of Trust policies.
- To be able to use IT packages including Teams, Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Bioquell Q10 - HPV.
- Decontamination Trained.
- Health & Safety qualification Team Leader/Supervisory qualification or equivalent.
