Role summary

This is a part-time secondment opportunity for an experienced Children's Nurse to support the Children's Outpatients Sister and Matron. The role involves leading and managing nursing and support staff across five sites, ensuring high-quality patient care and developing robust processes. You will also be responsible for clinical audit, promoting high standards, and adapting services to changing guidance. The department handles over 34,000 appointments annually, offering various paediatric services.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Outpatients Sister and Matron in leading and managing nursing and support staff within Children's Outpatients Departments trust-wide.
  • Ensure high-quality care for patients through robust processes, clinical audit, and patient engagement.
  • Adjust and adapt services according to changes in guidance, legislation, and research.
  • Oversee professional and personal development of staff to meet service needs.
  • Ensure the care delivered is high quality, and environments are clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Lead Outpatient staff and manage the provision of staff and equipment for seamless clinic operations, including direct clinical work and staff supervision.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse (Child) on part 1 of the NMC register
  • Valid UK NMC PIN
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent level of demonstrable professional knowledge/experience
  • Supplemented by diploma level specialist training, experience, short courses
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Venepuncture training/competence
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Works within codes of practice and professional guidelines.
  • Experience of quality assurance activities/ audit.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children legislation and policy and able to apply this to decision making.
  • Good IT skills; able to use EPR and other electronic systems.
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work flexibly in the multidisciplinary team.
  • Dexterity and accuracy required for, e.g. intravenous injections, syringe pumps and infusion, insertion of catheters and removal of suture, immunisations.
  • Ability to work hours flexibly when service needs require
  • Ability to travel independently across sites.
  • Driving posts musty have valid Full UK driving licence
