Role summary
This role supports the Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (PMU) at Guy's Hospital by providing specialist engineering services. The post holder will assist in maintaining pharmaceutical manufacturing machinery and plant, ensuring continuous operation. Key duties include routine monitoring, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of critical utility systems and process equipment. The role also involves technical assistance for validation activities and supporting investigations into deviations.
Essential criteria
- A Level 3 Vocational Qualification in an engineering relevant subject or equivalent specialist experience, coupled with occupational training.
- Previous Experience
- Portfolio demonstrating experience of working within a broad range of occupational guidelines
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility or similar GMP industry
- Skills/Knowlede/Ability
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately communicate complex technical information to a wide audience.
- Demonstrated ability to organise self to deliver engineering team priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to identify risk and carry out simple risk assessments with appropriate mitigation and escalation.
- Demonstrated ability to work in restricted areas such as clean rooms or plant rooms wearing appropriate PPE
- Demonstrated ability to comply with standard operating procedures and to assess other staff's compliance with these procedures.

Job summary
The Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (PMU) at Guy's Hospital is an MHRA Licenced Unit manufacturing a broad portfolio of terminally sterilised and non-sterile Specials (unlicensed) medicines. Additionally, under our MIA(IMP) License , the PMU provides clinical trial manufacturing activities through our collaboration with Kings Health Partners and other clinical trial organizations.
The PMU has an extensive portfolio of equipment and plant machinery to support pharmaceutical manufacturing activities, including processing & packaging lines as well as Water for Injection (WFI), Air Handling (AHU) and Autoclave systems.
The department is comprised of approx. 30 staff made up of operational teams, senior support and engineering teams.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist the PMU Engineering team in providing specialist engineering services to the PMU to ensure that all pharmaceutical manufacturing machinery and plant remains operational at all times. The key role responsibilities include:
