Role summary

Key responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for adult patients with diverse medical conditions in a fast-paced Acute Assessment Unit.
  • Work closely with inter-disciplinary teams including Doctors, Nurses, and Therapists to ensure swift, safe, and high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain professional standards and work effectively under pressure without compromising basic standards of care.

  • Collaborate with colleagues from A&E, SDEC, and other medical wards to ensure timely patient flow.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse and hold active registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Diploma/Degree level qualification relevant to role
  • Professional qualification and knowledge of patient assessment, planning, developing and implementing programmes of care
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc
  • Experience in nursing care, knowledge and expertise acquired through training
  • Demonstrate experience of providing nursing care in the healthcare setting
  • Professional clinical knowledge skills and skills that demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, develop and implement programmes of care
  • Ability to apply professional judgement and problem solve
  • Able to support learners and clinical supervision of junior staff.
  • Able to support mentors in decisions related to students/learners and make judgements regarding competence and fitness to practice.
  • Day to day management of a patient caseload and delegate effectively to clinical support workers.
  • Able to maintain work-related record keeping.
  • Ability to promote staff wellbeing and manage performance
  • Clinical skills and competence relevant to role to support innovative, evidence based practice.

Job summary

The Acute Assessment Unit is a busy fast-paced inpatient medical unit, that provides care for adult patients from age sixteen and over, with diverse medical conditions. We work closely with our inter-disciplinary teams, to ensure swift, safe and high-quality care for all our patients as we endeavour to maintain an average length of patient stay of seventy-two hours.

We pride ourselves on having an integrated friendly and welcoming team made up of Allied health professionals including Doctors, Nurses and Therapists. We work closely with our colleagues from Accident & Emergency (A&E), Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC), all medical wards, other departments and areas within the hospital, ensuring timely patient flow, from A&E/SDEC to the appropriate wards/destination as per patients' medical requirement.
