Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Urology Cancer Nurse Specialist team. The successful candidate will work within an established, highly motivated team formed from the merger of Royal Liverpool and Aintree University Hospital Urology departments. The role involves delivering nurse-led telephone assessment clinics and managing patients through cancer pathways, including diagnostics, biopsies, diagnosis, and SMDT. The service is delivered across Aintree and Royal sites, with opportunities to reconfigure services for cancer patients in Merseyside.
Key responsibilities
- Perform specialist personalised assessment and discussion of patients' holistic needs, leading to personalised care planning.
- Manage a patient caseload, providing expert assessment, planning, and evaluation of care.
- Co-ordinate and manage nurse-led clinics within the speciality.
- Contribute to a multi-professional approach in patient management, especially regarding ongoing care and discharge.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers, and relatives.
- Lead the specialist nursing contribution to the service, ensuring high standards of patient care in partnership with lead clinicians and management.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse / Midwife
- Post-basic specialist Qualification relevant to speciality
- Recognised Teaching Qualification
- First Degree
- Demonstrable Post-Reg. experience
- Evidence of undertaking the relevant speciality successfully at Band 6
- Extensive clinical experience

We are a highly motivated cohesive team that has formed from the merger between the Royal Liverpool and Aintree University Hospital Urology departments.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will work with the existing team to deliver nurse led telephone assessment clinics and manages patients through the Cancer Pathways including; diagnostic imaging, biopsies, diagnosis and SMDT. Currently the service is delivered across Aintree and Royal sites . The merger between the two hospitals is a great opportunity to reconfigure our service to best manage our cancer patients in Merseyside.
The candidate needs to be an experienced Urology nurse with cancer experience. The job will include mentoring from our current team. Key attributes for the individual should include: ability to work in a team; confidence to also work autonomously; a desire to improve clinical patient care; be a good communicator, and be compassionate to our patients.
