Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and motivated Assistant Management Accountant to join the Finance Team at Cambridge University Hospitals. The role involves providing financial reporting and transactional support to the Senior Management Accountant, managing R&D cost centres, and liaising with budget holders and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include producing budget reports, investigating variances, and implementing adjustments to forecasts and budgets. The successful candidate will need strong analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and the ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce budget reports from the ledger and investigate variances.
  • Implement adjustments required to income and expenditure forecasts and budgets.
  • Drive and manage data defects and core process changes.
  • Hold regular reviews with peers and specialist colleagues to support intelligence gathering and resolve queries.
  • Provide information, analysis, and support in interpreting reports and collating information for robust forecasts.

Essential criteria

  • o Educated to A level standard or equivalent.
  • o GCSE or equivalent in Higher Level Mathematics and English.

Desirable criteria

  • o ECDL qualification or equivalent experience- able to set up spreadsheets and documents.
  • o Educated to Degree level.
  • o Educated to Association of Accounting Technicians Intermediate Level, or equivalent experience.
  • o MS Office - preparing reports in Word, and using Excel for data - being able to use different formulae.
  • o Planning and prioritising your time to balance different demands and deadlines.
  • o Previous experience of working in an accounting department in a management accountant role within a large organisation.
  • o Understand the use and explain the purpose of accounting accruals and provisions.
  • o Self motivated with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • o Prepared to contribute to how the department operates.
  • o An ability to listen to budget holders, senior managers and to respond to questions or requests for information in a way which non-financial staff will understand and can interpret.
  • o Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both non-finance and finance staff.
  • o Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels within the organisation.
  • o Able to carry out work with the required attention to detail in a busy financial management department.
  • o Able to concentrate and focus on a range of issues particularly during the monthly reporting cycle.
  • o Able to prioritise own workload.

Job summary

Would you like to work in a busy Finance office supporting a world leading Research and Development department at Cambridge University Hospitals?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an organised and motivated individual to join the Finance Team at CUH. Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you will be providing financial reporting and transactional support to them as well as looking after your own range of R&D cost centres.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include monitoring the financial performance of a range of cost Centres liaising with budget holders and managing relationships with a number of stakeholders within the Trust's R&D community.

This post is a challenging and creative role where the ability to communicate well with colleagues across the Trust is important. A flexible approach and a can-do attitude are crucial. You will be self-motivated, able to prioritise your own work and work to deadlines. You will have experience using Microsoft packages (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) with proven ability to analyse complex data and transform it into meaningful reports. You will demonstrate confidence, analytical ability and a flexible approach to the demands of the job.
