Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Senior Community Staff Nurse within the Halesowen District nursing team. The post holder will be responsible for assessing care needs, developing and implementing care programmes, and taking responsibility for caseloads in the absence of others. It requires strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, with a commitment to advancing community nursing. This is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills by supporting the team leader.
Key responsibilities
- Assess ongoing care needs for patients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
- Carry out all relevant forms of patient care.
- Take responsibility for caseload holders in their absence.
- Support the team leader to develop leadership skills.
Essential criteria
- First level Registered Nurse
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Educated to Degree level (Level 6)
- Must be able to commute to meet the demands of the role
- Ability to develop working relationships with other professionals
- Able to demonstrate empathy with clients, carers, families and colleagues - ensuring that communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to write concise and comprehensive papers and reports.
- Provide hands on direct patient care including safe handling of patients and equipment.
- Post registration experience to include: Evidence of mentoring, Management and development of others
- Good background knowledge of issues within the primary care arena
- Demonstrate knowledge of research based practice
- Willing to undertake Band 6 competencies
- Have knowledge of major NHS issues
- Significant post registration experience
- Experience of working in primary care
- Experience of direct supervision of qualified and unqualified staff
- Experience of identifying the development needs of others and giving effective feedback.
- Significant Community experience
- Evidence of working to and achieving defined objectives
- Evidence of knowledge relating to caseload management and leadership/provision of support to others

Secondment - September 2027
We are looking to appoint a Band 6 District Nurse into our friendly and supportive Halesowen District nursing team. You must have effective communication and negotiation skills.
As an advocate for our patients, you need to have the ability to inspire people at all levels. This post would require that you had an understanding of the expanding role of community nursing and would have the commitment to take it forward. You will need a sound understanding of the current primary care agenda, with excellent communication skills and effective leadership and decision-making skills. You will need to be innovative and able to work autonomously whilst promoting a positive and supportive learning environment for team members and students. This would be an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills in supporting the team leader.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder is responsible for the ongoing assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The post holder will carry out all relevant forms of care and will take responsibility for caseload holders in their absence.
