Role summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join their Pharmacy Procurement Team at North Manchester General Hospital. This role involves developing specialist knowledge in medicines procurement and ensuring the timely, cost-effective supply of medicines across MFT's hospital sites. The technician will work independently, supporting patient care by ensuring medicines are available when needed, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Key responsibilities

  • Undertaking daily medicines ordering activities for North Manchester General Hospital.
  • Conducting risk assessments for unlicensed medicines to support safe procurement.
  • Supporting the maintenance and updating of national, regional, and local medicines contracts.
  • Assisting with the management and coordination of medicines recalls and drug alerts.
  • Ensuring off-contract purchasing claims are identified, monitored, and processed.
  • Liaising with pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff to resolve supply issues.

Essential criteria

  • BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent (2 Years), or qualifying in 2023
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC, or qualifying in 2024
  • Understanding of pharmacy procurement and medicines supply processes.
  • Knowledge of national, regional, and local medicines contracts.
  • Knowledge of information governance, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.
  • Experience using computer systems and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Outlook and Excel).
  • Experience conducting audit and risk assessments.
  • Experience of working in a supervisory role
  • Ability to analyse information and solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable criteria

  • Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) qualification.
  • Experience of medicines ordering and stock management.
  • Experience using HIVE or other pharmacy procurement and stock management systems.
  • Experience writing or reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to train and support other staff.
