Role summary
This role is for a Maternity Support Worker to join midwifery teams across inpatient wards, delivery suite, Triage, or antenatal clinic. The primary responsibility is to assist and support midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team in providing safe and holistic care to mothers and newborns. The post holder will work under the direct or indirect supervision of a midwife and will undertake defined competencies, with support provided for skill development and career progression.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English Grades A-C, Levels 4-9, Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent
- Level 3 qualification in Health care
- Care certificate
- Commitment to undertake in house training with successful completion within 1 year of appointment
Desirable criteria
- Foundation Degree Maternity Pathway
- Knowledge and Experience
- Previous experience of working with members of the public
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
- Understanding of Safeguarding issues
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues
- Knowledge and understanding of data protection confidentially
- Formal maternity care experience in a hospital/birth centre
- Experience of using hospital patient record system
- Experience of providing high quality care
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Understanding of the role and own professional boundaries
- Able to identify when to escalate issues/concerns
- PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
- IT / computer skills

Job summary
We are looking for Maternity Support Workers to join our midwifery teams working within our inpatient wards, delivery suite, Triage or antenatal clinic. The primary role of a Maternity Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and wider multidisciplinary team: in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to care.
The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s), and it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides clinical care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training.
The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies, support will be given to employees to further develop their skills and explore pathways for progression where appropriate.
