Role summary
This permanent, full-time Assistant Psychologist role at Band 4 involves working with the Bromley Community Learning Disability Team based at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup. You will provide psychological assessment, support, and intervention to individuals, groups, families, and staff teams in various community settings. The role requires applying a range of therapeutic approaches under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. You will also assist with administration, audits, research, and teaching.
Key responsibilities
- Support and enhance professional psychological care of clients within the service, providing assessment and interventions under supervision.
- Work independently on a day-to-day basis according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist.
- Assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice through CPD and adherence to standards.
- Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes and Trust policies.
- Prepare test materials and visual aids, and undertake specific administrative duties as required.
Essential criteria
- An honours degree in psychology (2.1 or above)
- Entitlement to graduate basis for registration of the British Psychological Society
- Further post-graduate experience in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- Work with people with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities and/or psychological/behavioural problems
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- Ability to communicate sensitive, information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems, behavioural problems, learning disabilities and/or other disabilities
Desirable criteria
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision, particularly in the care group of the specialty of this post

Job summary
We have a permanent post at Band 4 full time for a dynamic and creative assistant clinical psychologist. You would be working with the Bromley Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) based at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup. You will be working in a variety of community settings, with individuals, groups, families and staff teams, providing assessment, support and intervention and applying a range of therapeutic approaches. The post will be based in Sidcup, but will require work in various locations across Bromley, and some work in all the three boroughs covered by Oxleas. You will ideally have a car available, but it is essential that you can travel throughout the Oxleas area, using public transport where necessary.
Individual supervision will be provided by experienced psychologists and nurses. The psychology speciality is a creative and innovative one, encouraging research and service evaluation, with a strong focus on measuring outcomes.
The psychology speciality and Oxleas value highly the involvement and expertise of service users - from their being part of interviews for all posts, through to projects to enable their voices to be heard and to influence services.
