Role summary

This is an internal opportunity for a Surgical Booking Coordinator within the Dermatology Department. The role involves coordinating skin surgery bookings, managing inpatient worklists, and scheduling surgical procedures. The coordinator will also arrange surgical sessions, ensure nursing staff availability, and monitor waiting lists for various patient categories. This position requires a professional approach, strong organizational skills, and excellent communication.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide a coordinator role for booking skin surgery in the Dermatology Department.
  • Manage the inpatient worklist and book TCI (to come in) dates for surgical procedures.
  • Arrange surgical sessions and ensure nursing staff are available.
  • Closely monitor waiting lists for urgent suspected cancer, urgent, and routine patients.
  • Work for Consultants and their team, and supervise junior secretarial/clerical staff.
  • Be flexible in working throughout the Division as service needs require.

Essential criteria

  • Good general education and GCSE in English and Mathematics or equivalent
  • Level 3 Business Administration Qualification or Equivalent
  • Proficiency in using office systems and managing electronic patient administration systems
  • Well developed communication skills, ability to prioritise workload effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of Referral to Treatment (RTT) pathways, cancer waiting time standards and waiting list management
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience of waiting list management within an NHS setting
  • Proactive problem solver, able to identify issues and escalate appropriately
  • Administrative experience in a Healthcare setting
