Role summary
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Breast Care Service at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team, providing support and care to breast cancer patients from pre-diagnosis through to survivorship. The post can also be offered as a Band 6 development secondment, with the intention to progress to a substantive Band 7 role upon successful completion of competencies. The team is dynamic and dedicated, aiming to deliver the highest standard of clinical care.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a resource to colleagues within the Trust and Community for breast cancer patient care.
- Participate in mentoring, supervision, and continuing education for nurses/AHCPs.
- Provide information and continuing support to breast cancer patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.
- Identify and maintain a network of support services and contacts for breast cancer patients.
- Assist in research projects, audit processes, and Quality assurance projects.
- Manage Nurse-led survivorship clinics / complex wound clinics and assist in breaking bad news.
Essential criteria
- For Band 7 role: Postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialism or equivalent
- For Band 7 role: Management qualification
- Extensive post-registration experience and significant experience must be in specialism

This would be a 12- month secondment, with a clear development plan and support from the wider Breast Care CNS team. Subject to successful completion of agreed competencies, objectives and satisfactory performance during the secondment, the intention would be for the post holder to progress into the substantive Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist role.

The trust is part of the Breast Surgery Specialty Clinical Network incorporating both the James Paget and Queen Elizabeth hospitals.
We are a dynamic and dedicated team of Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists who work within a multidisciplinary specialty. The Boudicca Breast Unit is a very busy department, seeing more than 700 breast cancer patients a year.
As Clinical Nurse Specialists, we work autonomously, as well as collaboratively, and aim to develop, implement andevaluate our service to achieve the highest standard of clinical care.
