Role summary
This is a permanent opportunity for Registered Mental Health Nurses to provide patient-centred care within Foss Park Hospital, a purpose-built mental health facility. The role involves working with a multi-disciplinary team across four inpatient wards, focusing on working age adults and older people's services. Both experienced and newly registered nurses are welcome, with a full induction and preceptorship programme provided. You will be responsible for all aspects of patient care, including medication, observations, and shift coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Work alongside a team of nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and medics as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.
- Carry out all aspects of patient care including medication, one to one time with patients, and observations.
- Coordinate the shift and, depending on experience, act as nurse in charge.
- Work 12-hour shifts covering 24/7 days and nights and public holidays.
- Deliver Patient Centred Care, support for carers and evidence based practice.
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD
- To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
- Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Working with people with mental ill health.
- Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
- Working in an inpatient environment
- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Working in partnership with other agencies
- Evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
- Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
- Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
- Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
- Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
- Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Manage own time and prioritise effectively
- Evidence of team working
- Use approved techniques in physical intervention (within agreed timescale).
