Role summary
This role is for an experienced Chief Cardiac Physiologist with advanced clinical expertise in cardiac rhythm management (CRM), including electrophysiology and implantable cardiac devices. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of clinical and technical diagnostic procedures, act as a clinical role model, and contribute to the training and development of staff. The position is based at Harefield Hospital, a specialist center for heart and lung care.
Essential criteria
- BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or have the AHCS Certificate of PTP Equivalence
- AHCS registered or eligible to register
- Immediate Life Support (ILS) minimum
Desirable criteria
- Specialist qualification within CRM - either BHRS, IBHRE or EHRA in EP or Devices or both
- Working towards a postgraduate qualification relevant to the Cardiology discipline (PGCert/PGDip/MSc)
- Competent in the physiologist's role in both electrophysiology and complex devices
- Keen to work toward STP equivalence with the AHCS with a view to registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist
- EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
- Demonstrable experience within a CRM discipline
- Experience of a wider range of invasive and non-invasive techniques involved in the assessment and therapy provision for patients with cardiac disease
- Can participate in the wider needs of the department (on-call), when required to do so
- At least 2 years NHS experience
- Independent practitioner within EP / Devices, competent in the use of either: (I) conventional EP procedures and a 3D EP mapping system technology or (II) follow up and implantation of complex implantable cardiac devices
- Able to demonstrate teaching and supervisory experience
- SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Technical skills enabling measurement and analysis of physiological parameters
- Training skills
- Ability to deputise for senior colleagues
- Understands use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Understands budget constraints
- Able to articulate a vision for research and service development within the field of CRM
- Ability to work both independently and as member of a team.
- Ability to think clearly and act appropriately in emergency situations
- Self - motivating
- Prepared to go the extra mile. Participating in waiting lists and private cases
- Empathy with both patients and staff. Understanding of the needs of other people and departments

Job summary
We are seeking a Cardiac Physiologist who is ready to take the next step in their career to join our team at Harefield Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Cardiac Physiologist with advanced clinical expertise in cardiac rhythm management (CRM), ideally including electrophysiology and implantable cardiac devices.
Please note, only applicants with experience of working independently in CRM clinics and CRM labs with accreditation will be shortlisted.
Harefield Hospital is a specialist center for heart and lung care, as well as a leading transplant hospital. Our cardiac catheter laboratories run a highly active primary service, and it would be desirable for the successful candidate to contribute to the 24/7 on-call rota.
This position includes a Recruitment and Retention Premium (RRP) of £6,000, in addition to the basic salary (non-pensionable). The RRP is subject to review on 31st March 2027.
