Role summary
This role is for a dedicated and motivated nurse to develop skills and knowledge in Diabetes Nursing within the North Lancashire diabetes service. The successful candidate will work predominantly in the North Lancashire area, covering inpatient and community clinic settings. The role involves complex nursing assessments, developing and delivering care programmes, and supporting education for healthcare professionals. It offers training in specialist areas like subcutaneous insulin pumps and antenatal diabetes care.
Essential criteria
- 1 st level registered nurse, educated to degree level or undertaking degree pathway.
- Post registration clinical qualification in Diabetes or willingness to undertake and pass
- Evidence of continuing professional education and development
- Mentoring and Assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Masters Level
- Non-medical prescriber (this is a qualification to work towards)
- Recent management/leadership experience
- Current knowledge, experience and competence in the clinical management of patients with Diabetes
- Evidence of mentoring, assessing, teaching and developing staff.
- Setting and monitoring of standards
- Ability to develop expert practice.
- Experience of and ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Experience of establishing effective communication.
- Demonstrate change management experience
- Experience of presenting to a multidisciplinary audience.
- Experience of undertaking audit.
- Experience of undertaking research or carrying out a research project.
- Experience of policy development.
- Exercise a degree of autonomy within specialist area
- Skills, ability and knowledge
- Ability to respond rapidly to emergency situations
- Demonstrable clinical skills relevant to Diabetes care such as Blood Glucose monitoring using a finger prick sample / POCT machine and or venepuncture

Are you a band 5 or current band 6 nurse who has an interest in diabetes and would like to expand your knowledge and skills in diabetes management? If so the diabetes service in North Lancashire have a role for you in their team.
The diabetes service is cross bay and made up of teams of consultants, specialist nurses and dieticians.
This vacancy is a rare opportunity, the successful candidate will be based predominately in the North Lancashire area, working within the inpatient, community clinic setting with some opportunity to cross bay cover.
As a team, we also give equal importance to staff health and wellbeing, Utilising your specialist skills and knowledge, you will demonstrate genuine passion and enthusiasm for holistic patient- centred care delivery whilst facilitating and undertaking personal and professional development, which is supported by our team and our wider Community care Diagnostics & End of life Division .
