Role summary
This role involves overseeing the successful set-up and delivery of the Lung Research Team Portfolio, ensuring efficient initiation and delivery of clinical research. The manager will implement and optimize quality, financial, and data systems, and lead on staff training and development. Key responsibilities include line management of trial coordination staff and active support in service improvement. The post holder will also manage financial agreements with sponsors and track the research portfolio status.
Essential criteria
- Scientific/ Business degree or relevant experience in scientific and medical research
- Current GCP certification
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate certificate in clinical research or other relevant post graduate qualification/ experience
- Management qualification
- Line management experience
- Significant experience in clinical Trial administration and coordination in the NHS, academic and/ or commercial setting
- Experience of using a wide range of IT software and data collection applications
- Experience in managing projects and able to independently deliver projects on target
- Experience of performance monitoring and management
- Previous experience of working in the NHS
- Experience in leading/ initiating change
- Post-graduate administration/ business experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate, influence in contentious situations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Intermediate level of IT skills.

Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Research Portfolio Manager to the Lung Research Team within The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The research teams form part of the Research and Innovation division.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and extensively experienced individual who will be responsible for overseeing the successful set-up and delivery of the Lung Research Team Portfolio in line with divisional and national key performance metrics.
Core duties will include facilitation and management of research feasibility assessments. Ensuring efficient and timely initiation and delivery of clinical research. Ensure the implementation, standardisation and optimisation of quality, financial, and data systems.
The post holder is expected to use initiative and be able to work independently without close supervision. They should be pro-active in monitoring the quality and effectiveness of working practices within research team as well as lead on continued training and development of non-clinical staff across the Research Division. They will take overall managerial responsibility for recruitment, retention, disciplinary and grievance, and all human resource related staffing issues for the assigned team.
