Role summary

This role is for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to join the Histopathology laboratory team, providing high-quality diagnostic services. The successful candidate will perform scientific and technical activities, maintain professional competence through CPD, and adhere to departmental policies. They will also supervise and train junior staff, ensuring efficient and quality service delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Prioritise and organise workload to ensure continuity and efficiency of service.
  • Participate in the laboratory preparation of tissue sections including tissue embedding and microtomy.
  • Participate in the provision of the laboratory immunocytochemistry service.
  • Assist medical staff during specimen dissection and undertake description and transfer of Category A samples.
  • Participate in the Biomedical Scientist extended specimen dissection rota for Category B and C samples if required.
  • Supervise and assist in the training and development of trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA).

Essential criteria

  • BSc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science or equivalent
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Experience in Immunohistochemistry
  • Experience in Specimen Dissection
  • Experience in staff supervision and training

Desirable criteria

  • Post HCPC Registration experience in the relevant Biomedical Science discipline
  • Leadership skills
  • Digital experience
