Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join a rotational program at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves rotating through various specialities including Major Trauma, Neurosurgery, Stroke, and Critical Care, providing comprehensive OT assessment and intervention. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, supervise junior staff, and contribute to service development, all while being supported by experienced Band 7 OTs and Physios. The position focuses on enabling patient discharge and requires a sound understanding of complex patient needs.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and treat patients across a wide range of specialities to facilitate discharge.
- Work at pace with a sound understanding of complex medical, physical, cognitive, and psychosocial patient needs.
- Provide supervision, support, and training to junior members of the team.
- Collaborate closely with MDT colleagues to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
- Work with community colleagues to ensure smooth patient transitions from hospital.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of the occupational therapy service.
Essential criteria
- BSc / MSc Occupational Therapy or equivilent
- HCPC registration
- Significant post registration NHS experience of working across core clinical areas including managing medical, surgical, neurological and mental health conditions
- Evidence of a wide clinical theoretical knowledge base
- Well-developed communication skills
- Experience of working as part of an MDT and leading rehab / discharge plans
- Evidence of supervising junior staff and students
- Evidence of contribution to service improvement / development
- Evidence of relevant CPD
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Good IT skills / clinical documentation
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate training relevant to rotations
- Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists

You will have the opportunity to rotate through: Major Trauma, Neurosurgery, Neuro Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, Stroke, Emergency Assessment Unit, Aging Complex Medicine & Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation. We are delighted to have a new addition of Critical Care to our rotation specialties. You will work closely with MDT colleagues to enable the best possible outcomes for patients.
