Role summary
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is seeking a motivated and clinically-competent Department Leader for their Fracture Clinic and Trauma Assessment Unit. This role involves leading the nursing team, ensuring high-quality patient care, and managing workforce and financial resources. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, act as a role model, and contribute to the development of staff and services. Experience in trauma or orthopaedic nursing and team leadership is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Line-manage the nursing team, including Registered Nurses, Assistant Practitioners, Plaster Technicians and Healthcare Assistants.
- Provide clinical leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, and seamless patient service.
- Ensure safe, effective, and efficient management of workforce and financial resources within the clinical area.
- Act as a role model and skilled practitioner, demonstrating high standards of care and professionalism.
- Lead recruitment and retention of skilled staff and contribute to identifying new roles.
- Facilitate, support, and ensure the development of all staff within the team.
Essential criteria
- Relevant professional qualification with NMC/HCPC registration
- Education to degree level or equivalent level of experience
- Substantive experience within Trauma or Orthopaedics
- Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented team working practices
- Commitment to ongoing lifelong learning and personal development
- Ability to promote equality of opportunity and confidentiality for service users and staff
Desirable criteria
- Possession of relevant mentorship or teaching certificate
- Possession of speciality post registration certificate or equivalent experience
- Evidence of experience within operational management in an acute hospital setting
- Evidence of experience within the relevant speciality/service

Job summary
The Fracture Clinic has recently moved to a new clinical setting and is now looking for a motivated, positive and clinically-competent individual to lead the team and the service as the Department Leader.
Trauma Assessment Unit provides dedicated Orthopaedic-led assessment area for patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries, supporting timely clinical review, definitive management planning and avoidance of unnecessary Emergency Department attendance and admission. There is an exciting opportunity to support on the expansion and development of this service.
There is potential for this to be a full time position subject to funding.
To be successful in this role you will need to have experience in trauma or orthopaedic nursing with significant experience and passion for managing and leading a team. You will be able to demonstrate that you have the attributes of a competent Department Leader.
You will be supported by the Clinical Matron and work closely with the Service Manager and Specialty Lead for Trauma Services.
