Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Clinical Sister to join the Cardiology team at Warwick Hospital on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role involves working within the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) or Malins Ward, providing clinical leadership and ensuring high-quality patient care. You will support the Ward Manager in operational and clinical management, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives. The post requires strong leadership, clinical decision-making, and communication skills, acting as a positive role model for staff and students.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Ward Manager in leading a team of nurses to deliver high standards of care.
- Provide visible clinical leadership and ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
- Deputise for the Ward Manager, managing the ward's day-to-day operations including staff allocation and patient flow.
- Contribute to staff management processes, including appraisal, supervision, recruitment, and development.
- Promote continuous improvement, enhance patient experience, and support departmental objectives.
- Contribute to the planning, monitoring, and control of unit resources, assisting with budget management.
Essential criteria
- Degree in adult nursing (or equivalent).
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- leadership qualification
- 3 years acute medicine experience
- Able initiate and deliver high quality nursing care
- Can plan, delegate and supervise others
- Able to manage clinical area effectively
- Demonstrates ability to initiate the implementation of evidence-based practice
- Able to lead in clinical audit
- Able to assist to manage resources within a budget
- Aware of current NHS issues and priorities
- Able to lead and develop an effective team
- Able to express self clearly and confidently - verbal and written within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrates commitment and ability to teach others

- Recognised cardiology qualification
- ALS qualified
- ECG interpretation

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Clinical Sister to join our Cardiology team on a 12-month fixed-term contract at Warwick Hospital.
Our Cardiology Unit comprises a 9-bedded Coronary Care Unit (CCU), a 20-bedded cardiology ward (Malins Ward) and a Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your clinical and leadership skills within a supportive specialist environment.
Malins Ward cares for patients with a range of acute and chronic cardiac conditions, including arrhythmias, Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), chest pain and heart failure, supported by telemetry monitoring. Experience caring for cardiology patients and coordinating a busy ward environment is essential.
CCU is a 9-bedded Level 2 area providing enhanced cardiac care, including continuous monitoring, cardiac CPAP, blood pressure support and specialist interventions.
