Role summary
This Financial Accountant role reports to the Senior Financial Accountant - Technical Accounts and is responsible for key areas within the Financial Accounts function. The post holder will play a crucial role in delivering the financial accounting and reporting agenda for the Trust, including statutory accounts, finance policy, and monthly returns. They will interpret and implement changes from IFRS and NHS accounting standards, liaise with auditors, and manage lease and stock accounting. The role also involves staff development and leading automation strategies.
Essential criteria
- Professional CCAB Accountancy qualification finalist or equivalent.
- Theoretical knowledge of accounting systems.
- Knowledge of accounting and reporting standards (including IFRS).
- Committed to instigating and maintaining own Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and encouraging / enabling that of others.
- Significant experience of technical financial accounting within a large complex organisation.
Desirable criteria
- Fully Qualified Professional CCAB Accountancy qualification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of NHS finance policies.
- NHS finance experience
- Experience of advising finance and non-finance managers on financial matters, providing detailed advice and guidance.
- Staff management and leadership experience.
- Adherence to complex rules relating to financial standards, policies or national guidance.
- Advanced level of understanding of Microsoft Excel, including the use of advanced functionality.
- Interpreting IFRS and NHS accounting guidance.

- Leading component parts of statutory accounts preparation.
- Developing accounting policies and procedures.
- In-depth specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, financial aspects of NHS legislation and NHS finance policies.

- Analyse complex problems specifically relating to technical accounting, including improving the accuracy of stock takes, provisions accounting and Resource Department Expenditure Limits (RDEL) returns, and providing judgement on potential IR35 situations.

Job summary
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant - Technical Accounts, the post holder will have responsibilities for key areas across the Financial Accounts function. This post requires a combination of financial accounting skills and experience within the context of a large acute provider Trust.
Main duties of the job
Accountable for aspects of the final statutory accounts and finance policy relating to specific areas, including stock and lease accounting.
The post holder will be playing a key role in helping to deliver the financial accounting and reporting agenda for the Trust, by providing dedicated support to the Senior Financial Accountant - Technical Accounts in the production of ad-hoc reports, monthly and the annual statutory consolidated accounts. They will also have responsibility for completion of (SoFP) control accounts reconciliations, lease and stock accounting and subsequent reporting in the statutory accounts.
Interpret and implement changes arising from IFRS, NHS accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements, assessing the impact on Trust processes and recommending action.
There is a requirement of this post to liaise with external stakeholders, particularly internal and external auditors, and NHS Shared Business Service
