Role summary

This role involves providing Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) services to the 14-bedded Willow Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Bodmin Community Hospital. You will work as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, contributing to high-quality stroke rehabilitation. The position also includes some community-based work with patients in North and East Cornwall. Key duties include assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for adult stroke patients with communication and swallowing difficulties. You will work autonomously and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies.

Essential criteria

  • Current professional registration - HCPC
  • Professional qualification - SLT qualification at degree level or equivalent
  • Dysphagia qualification or equivalent certified practice

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Member of CEN related to clinical work
  • Post qualification experience including management of stroke including independent dysphagia management
  • Experience of working with and implementing AAC therapies
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of training others, including Speech and Language Therapy students
  • Experience of working with voluntary agencies, charities and non-NHS bodies
  • Education / Qualifications

Job summary

We are looking for a Stroke Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. Main duties of the job

  • Delivering comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for adult stroke patients experiencing communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
  • Working as an autonomous practitioner, managing patients with both acute and chronic presentations.
  • Collaborating effectively with the multi-disciplinary team and liaising with relevant care professionals and external agencies to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Supporting the ongoing training and development of the MDT and partner agencies to promote best practice in stroke rehabilitation.
