Role summary
The Clinical Practice Educator will join the Clinical Education Team to improve patient care through developing clinical skills and evidence-based practice across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. This Band 7 role involves delivering education through workplace coaching and competency-based programmes at St Mary's, Charing Cross, and Hammersmith Hospitals. The post holder will provide clinical education and leadership, spending approximately 80% of their time in the clinical environment supporting staff development. They will also design, deliver, and evaluate training programmes, contribute to service improvement, and lead small projects.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Minimum requirement of Degree qualification and post registration qualification applicable to specialist area
- Mentorship qualification or equivalent, demonstrable experience
Desirable criteria
- Critical Care qualification or ALS/ILS
- MSc
- Significant recent and varied experience in acute surgical speciality
- Significant recent experience in managing or supervising a clinical team
- Experience caring for Level 2/3 critically unwell patients
- Previous experience in other NHS Trusts
- Skills/knowledge/ abilities
- A professional role model. Practices according to policy and NMC Code
- Self-motivated, with drive and initiative. Able to work autonomously and within a team
- Able to process, retain and manage multiple, and complex, pieces of information
- Able to care effectively and compassionately for a group of patients if required

We are seeking a Band 7 Clinical Practice Educator to join our supportive team, delivering education across St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. This varied and rewarding role offers opportunities to contribute to service improvement projects and educational initiatives within an Academic Health Science Centre and Pathway to Excellence accredited hospitals.
The role requires excellent leadership, communication and clinical skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and support others while maintaining high standards of patient care. Although formal teaching experience is not essential, you should have a passion for education, a commitment to improving surgical patient care, and a willingness to develop as an educator.
You will need to be a Registered Nurse with substantial experience in a surgical setting, current experience leading a clinical team, and some critical care skills.
