Role summary

This role supports the Research Governance Manager and Head of Research Governance & Innovation in implementing and maintaining research assurance processes within the Trust. The post holder will oversee research governance and quality management, ensuring regulatory approvals are in place and research activity adheres to protocol. Key responsibilities include supporting the Trust sponsorship pathway as a first point of contact and conducting high-quality research delivery audits across all sites. The role involves planning and executing an auditing programme for archived and current research studies/trials.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or portfolio of evidence of equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Post-graduate qualifications or evidence of CPD
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of GCP, IRAS, HRA
  • Knowledge and experience of research or clinical study management.
  • Experience of NHS research delivery
  • Experience and expertise of processes involving research finance, NCVR, ETCs and commercial study contracts and invoicing
  • Extensive experience in processing commercial trial contracts and finance
  • Experience of information management e.g. inputting/extracting data from databases, electronic and paper based filing.
  • Experience of working in a research, service evaluation or audit environment (NHS, university or industry)
  • Experience and expert knowledge of EDGE, REDCAP and power BI
  • Extensive experience of NHS research
  • Demonstrable expertise in Microsoft Office including Excel
  • EDCL qualification
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing for external audiences
  • Ability to administer complex linked databases for research, evaluation, clinical audit and clinical outcomes

The Research Audit & Assurance Co-ordinator supports the Research Governance Manager and the Head of Research Governance & Innovation, to implement and maintain the research assurance (study set up, monitoring, sponsorship) processes within the Trust. Working as part of the Research Support Team, the post will oversee processes for research governance and quality management across the Trust, to ensure that research cannot commence without all the relevant regulatory approvals in place and that all research activity is delivered to protocol, time and target.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Trust sponsorship pathway, being the first point of contact for advice and applications to the pathway; supporting the Head of Research Governance & Innovation in implementing and maintaining the process. The post holder will be responsible for conducting high-quality research delivery audits at all sites (including in collaborative partnership) where research is delivered.The role will largely include planning an auditing programme within the Research & Innovation department for the post holder to work on by reviewing all archived and current research studies/trials.
