Role summary
This Staff Nurse role is for the 23 Hour Ward, a ring-fenced Elective Surgical Ward for patients requiring an overnight stay. You will nurse patients from various surgical specialties, both pre and post-operatively, developing skills in areas like cannulation, stoma care, and wound dressings. The position involves delivering high standards of nursing care, assessing patient needs, and implementing care plans as part of a dedicated team.
Key responsibilities
- Take clinical responsibility for patients within your allocated area of work.
- Continuously assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment, using appropriate programmes/methods of care.
- Ensure a high delivery of quality care in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional conduct and scope of professional practice and maintain own NMC registration.
- In the absence of a senior colleague, co-ordinate the shift and take management responsibility for admissions, transfers and discharges.
- Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure an effective flow and communications within the area.
Essential criteria
- First Level RGN
- Degree/Diploma in Nursing/Health studies
- NMC Registration
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the nursing process
- Able to efficiently plan and allocate work
- Able to manage time effectively
- Demonstrates knowledge of clinical audit and clinical effectiveness
- Demonstrate an understanding of Equality and Diversity
- Able to work as an effective team member

- Able to achieve personal objectives
- Flexible - can work shifts, weekend, bank holidays and evening duties
- Full Driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Must be willing to travel across localities

Job summary
23 Hour Ward is the ring-fenced Elective Surgical Ward for patients requiring an overnight stay. You will have the opportunity to nurse patients from various surgical specialties, both pre and post-operatively The role offers the opportunity to develop skills within Cannulation, Stoma Care, Epidurals, PCAs, Nutritional Support and various Wound Dressings.
Various hours and shift patterns will be considered, though please be aware that this is a 24/7 service which includes weekends and nights.

Main duties of the job
To deliver a high standard of nursing care to patients undergoing surgical or medical treatment.
The post holders will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, and implementation and evaluation of the programme of the care.
The post holders are required to work as part of a team committed to delivering and improving a high standard of nursing care within South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust.
