Role summary
This role is for an experienced Band 7 Sonographer to join a friendly and innovative ultrasound team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. The successful candidate will work as an autonomous practitioner, performing and reporting a broad range of ultrasound examinations across hospital and community settings. Key responsibilities
- Independently perform and report obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal and small parts ultrasound examinations.
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across hospital and community settings.
- Provide specialist advice to clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in service improvement, audit, and evaluation of new equipment.
- Support the training and development of future sonographers and healthcare professionals.
Essential criteria
- Highly developed physical skills (dexterity, co-ordination & sensory skills)
- Sound technical knowledge of equipment and ultrasound techniques
- Sound clinical knowledge
- Ability to communicate effectively up to consultant level
- Competent in all aspects of obstetric, gynae, abdominal and trans-vaginal scanning
- Good communication and patient care skills
- Ability to work alone or as part of team
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated
- Good organisational skills
- Keen to develop and take on new roles
- A willingness to be flexible
- Ability to juggle many priorities at one time, whilst remaining calm
- PgD/MSc in Medical Ultrasound or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Obstetrics, Gynaecology +/- general ultrasound)
- Hold a current state registration certificate (HCPC, NMC)
- Have portfolio evidence.
- Ability to travel to and work in our community sites located in Fareham, Gosport and Petersfield.
- Sonographer Experience in a NHS setting.
- Nuchal Translucency accredited (Fetal Medicine Foundation & DQASS)
- Experience as a sonographer in an NHS Trust.
Desirable criteria
- MSK
- Small parts (Testes/Thyroid etc.)
- Paediatrics
- Post graduate radiography/midwifery experience.
