Role summary
This role is an exciting opportunity to join the Endoscopy team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The Endoscopy Flow Coordinator will coordinate the flow of inpatients needing endoscopy procedures, working closely with clinical colleagues to ensure prompt and effective patient care. This key position supports the nursing team in daily coordination and assists the wider Trust in optimising patient flow. You will also collaborate with clinicians to prioritise and coordinate inpatient activity.
Key responsibilities
- Proactively manage the patient flow from arrival to departure within Endoscopy.
- Provide accurate, updated information on daily activity within Endoscopy.
- Communicate effectively with the ward team and other invested stakeholders.
- Attend and aid the facilitation of departmental huddles and other meetings as required.
- Take responsibility for prioritisation of workload, responding to changing priorities and conflicting demands.
Essential criteria
- Health and physical abilities sufficient for the post (if necessary with reasonable adjustments with respect to the Equality Act/Disability Discrimination Act).
- Literacy & numeracy skills to GCSE (or equivalent) level
- Educated to NVQ3/Diploma standard or equivalent qualification level or relevant work-based experience.
- Competent and experienced in the use of IT, including keyboard skills and Microsoft Office Packages
- Ability and willingness to learn new IT processes and systems
- Ability and willingness to undertake on the job training
- To demonstrate ability to develop and refine new processes to improve current systems.
- Experience of working in a busy environment.
- Experience of working under high pressure and to deadlines.
- Aware of challenges which will affect patient flow within a ward or clinical unit.

Desirable criteria
- Courses / further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience of working in an Endoscopy Department
- Develop systems to ensure efficient records are maintained for flow analysis
- Proficient in the use of all hospital computerised patient systems.

Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in Endoscopy. We are a nationally recognised Endoscopy Unit with a passionate and experienced team involved in treating patients in one of the busiest units in the country.
The Endoscopy Flow Coordinator role is fast paced, helping coordinate the flow of inpatients who need their endoscopy procedure, working closely with clinical colleagues and other stakeholders to ensure patients are seen promptly and effectively.
This is a key role in Endoscopy, directly supporting the nursing team in their daily coordination and supporting the wider Trust in making sure patients are seen as quickly as possible. You will also work directly with our team of clinicians to prioritise and coordinate inpatient activity.
