Role summary
This role is for a Band 7 Clinical Coordinator within a newly established Clinical Co-ordination Function, focusing on improving support for children and young people (CYP) with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism (LD/A). The coordinator will lead on care coordination for CYP at risk of hospital admission, ensuring pre-admission Care, Education and Treatment Reviews (CETRs) are completed. There are two roles available, one in Birmingham within the DICE Team and one in Solihull within the MPOWER service, both aiming to prevent avoidable psychiatric admissions and support discharge.
Essential criteria
- Registered clinical professional (e.g., RNLD, RNMH, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Psychologist)
- Current registration with relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Postgraduate training
- Experience of working with children and young people with LD/A and complex needs
- Experience of admission avoidance or intensive community support
- Experience working within or alongside CETR processes
- Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of national frameworks for CYP with LD/A (e.g. Transforming Care, CETRs, Dynamic Support Registers)
- Knowledge of safeguarding, SEND frameworks, and relevant legislation (Children Act, Mental Health Act)
- Passionate about improving outcomes for CYP with LD/A
- Understanding of BSOL local systems and resources
- Able to manage own time and workload
- Able to work proactively with other agencies
- Able to work as part of a team and lead others

Job summary

For Birmingham, the post holder will sit within the Disability Intensive Care Enhanced (DICE) Team, who work to prevent avoidable psychiatric admissions for children and young people with learning disabilities and / or autism. The individual would engage directly with children and young people who are admitted to a mental health hospital, and work with networks to proactively support discharge and reduce the risks of readmission.
