Role summary

This role is for an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer to join an established team within the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, independently scanning and reporting a range of diagnostic ultrasound scans across multiple sites. The position involves supporting acute in-patient and emergency portals, as well as GP and outpatient general ultrasound services, and contributing to trainee development.

Key responsibilities

  • Independently scan and report a range of diagnostic ultrasound scans in line with National, Trust and Department protocols.
  • Work across various centres including Royal Stoke University Hospital, County Hospital Stafford, Stoke on Trent Community Diagnostic Centre, and Haywood Community Hospital.
  • Support busy acute in-patient and emergency portals 7 days a week, performing abdominal, gynaecological, DVT and testicular examinations.
  • Deliver GP and outpatient general ultrasound services across all sites.
  • Contribute to the training framework for sonographer trainees.

Essential criteria

  • Autonomous Practitioner -independently scans and reports general medical examinations
  • Extended scope eg EP/ DVT/ Carotid/ Testes/other
  • Recent NHS experience as a sonographer
  • Evidence of continuous CPD
  • Mentor / assessor trainees
  • Driving
  • Case accredited post graduate ultrasound qualification / SVT or SVP qualification
  • HCPC / NMC / AVS/ RCCP or equivalent registration
