Role summary
This role is for an experienced administrator with strong team leadership skills to join the Children's Autism Assessment Service. You will supervise the administrative team, ensuring consistent service standards and effective management of waiting lists, referrals, appointments, and data. The role involves prioritising demands, resolving issues, and adapting to changing service needs while maintaining a professional approach. You will also handle sensitive information, contribute to recruitment, staff development, and continuous service improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise, line manage, train and support administrative staff, including regular one-to-ones, performance management and development.
- Coordinate and prioritise the team's workload, staffing requirements, clinics, appointments, meetings and diaries.
- Manage waiting lists, referrals, appointments and clinical records to support timely access to assessment.
- Maintain accurate records, data and performance information in line with information governance and confidentiality requirements.
- Handle complex enquiries, sensitive information and complaints professionally, escalating issues and risks where appropriate.
- Support recruitment, including interviews and new starter requirements.
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE standard or an equivalent
- Experience of supervising a team
- Experience in prioritising tasks from a number of people
- Experience in communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
- Experience using Microsoft Office systems with good keyboard skills
- An understanding of data protection, patient confidentiality and freedom of information
- An understanding of patient administration and other related systems
Desirable criteria
- Safeguarding Children Training at Level 2
- NVQ Level 3/QCF in administration or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Experience of patient booking and waiting list management
- Experience of working in an NHS organisation or similar
- Experience of prioritising work in a busy, multi-professional team environment
- Experience of communicating with patients/clients where there may be barriers of acceptance or understanding

We are looking for a Senior Admin Team Lead to join our Children's Autism Assessment Service and play a key role in supporting the delivery of timely, quality diagnostic assessments for children and families across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
