Role summary
This role supports the School Health Service by providing health and wellbeing interventions to children and young people with learning difficulties, including those with complex medical needs. The post holder will deliver child-centred clinical care within schools, working with education staff, families, and other professionals. Duties include managing clinical administration, maintaining records, supporting health screenings and immunisation programmes, and undertaking clinical duties like medicine administration and care for children with specific medical needs after training. The role requires adherence to Trust policies and safeguarding standards.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject or equivalent
- Experience of working with general public
- Experience of working with children, education staff and parents in schools
- Experience and ability to communicate with children who may be upset and require individual support
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience of a range of IT packages including internet and emails
- Experience of working autonomously and within a team
- Understanding of importance of confidentiality
- Ability to prioritise and plan own workload
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to acquire new skills and contribute to a developing service
- Willingness to undertake clinical duties
- Able to carry equipment from clinic base to schools. Light physical effort in line with Health and Safety guidance
- Ability to switch task if required
- Ability to deal with children with complex health, social and environmental needs
- Working in schools
- Ability to concentrate in one to one and group settings
- Awareness of children and young people who have tracheostomy's, urinary catheters, stomas, enteral feeds, and usage of associated equipment

Job summary
The School Health Service provides support to children, young people and their families through a progressive universal model of service delivery, tailored to assessed need.
The service provides a range of health and wellbeing interventions, including screening, developmental reviews, health promotion, and information and guidance to support positive parenting and healthy lifestyle choices, in line with current School Health priorities.
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote and maintain the health, wellbeing and development of children and young people with mild to moderate and severe learning difficulties, including those with complex medical needs.
The role will involve delivering high-quality, child-centred clinical care within the school environment, working collaboratively with education staff, families and other professionals to ensure children and young people receive safe, effective and inclusive health support
