Role summary
This role is for a Lead Midwife to provide clinical and managerial leadership within the maternity service, specifically deputising for the Labour Ward Matron. Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership to midwifery and non-midwifery staff, medical team students, ensuring effective management of the delivery suite and service.
- Be proactive in providing high standards of midwifery care and facilitating patient flow to other clinical areas.
- Be part of quality improvement projects in the unit, supporting implementation, embedding, and evaluation of results.
- Work with maternity matrons and other stakeholders to ensure staff deliver equitable, person-centred, and evidence-based care consistent with recommendations.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Intravenous accreditation
- Prep for Mentorship course or equivalent
- BSc or working towards
- Post registration experience including recent intrapartum experience.
- Recent experience of staff management
- Experience of Equal Opportunity polices and procedures
- Experience of caring for low risk as well as high dependency women in pregnancy, labour and postnatal delivery and supporting others to do so
- Experience of caring for at risk / socially excluded patient
- Understanding of own Knowledge and Skills Framework and ability to identify learning needs and interests
- Demonstrates a greater understanding of learning needs and evidence of facilitation skills
- Understanding and rising to the challenges in service improvement
- Can demonstrate a knowledge of current and emerging health care issues
