Role summary
This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Registered Nurse to join a diverse healthcare team delivering primary care services and specialist interventions to offenders in a prison setting. The role involves providing high-quality clinical care, managing a complex caseload, and supporting junior colleagues. You will be instrumental in promoting health and well-being, using skills to foster positive and productive lives for patients, and supporting their resettlement into the community. Key responsibilities
- Provide high quality primary care services and a range of specialist interventions for offenders.
- Deliver high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, demonstrating robust expert clinical skills and providing evidence-based nursing practice.
- Carry out duties including reception screening, emergency response, long term conditions management, planned care (e.g. running clinics), enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services and health promotion activities.
- Hold a complex caseload and support more junior colleagues with help or advice.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the healthcare team and provide clinical supervision to junior team members.
- Exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and have the ability to plan and reach complex and critical judgments and have decision making skills.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse RGN
- Post Graduate Qualification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience at Band 5.
- Working knowledge of current issues/agendas facing prison/offender healthcare.
- Experience of multi-professional collaboration including working in partnership with other statutory and voluntary organisations.
- Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, presenting ideas with clarity in a persuasive and influential style.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of change management and new ways of working.
- Ability to lead and empower people to make decisions and to plan ahead.
- Knowledge of current National Prison Health Quality & Performance Indicators.
- Good analytical and judgement skills.
- Ability to manage complex & challenging behaviour
Desirable criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- Experience of working within secure & prison settings.
