Role summary
This role is for a committed, enthusiastic, and skilled musculoskeletal physiotherapist to join the experienced CMATS (General and Spinal) Team within the Central area of BCUHB. The CMATS service delivers triage and clinical assessment sessions for people with musculoskeletal symptoms and orthopaedic conditions. The successful candidate will have a broad background in assessing and treating musculoskeletal conditions, with additional competency in imaging, requesting bloods, or prescribing being helpful. Training and support will be provided to ensure excellent assessment and triage, leading to appropriate onward management plans.
Key responsibilities
- Take a clinical lead role in the assessment and treatment of patients with highly complex presentations, using highly specialist/extended scope clinical knowledge.
- Work as an autonomous, clinical highly Specialist Physiotherapist, contributing to the development and delivery of a high-quality clinical service.
- Provide a high standard of specialist assessment and treatment of patients in various locations, using evidence-based principles and advanced clinical skills.
- Develop competencies for frontline clinical staff to assess, clinically reason, and effectively treat routine cases, and identify complex needs.
- Provide an ongoing rolling training programme and support package to develop appropriate knowledge and skills in the workforce within the specialism and rotational staff base.
Essential criteria
- Degree/Graduate Diploma in physiotherapy
- HCPC registered
- Able to demonstrate continuing professional development
- Obtained or working towards post graduate (Master's qualification)
- Extended scope skills or working towards
- Extensive experience of working as a Senior Physiotherapist
- Evidence of teaching within post
- Proven multidisciplinary working
- Experience of audit
- Excellent clinical reasoning skills in physiotherapy
- Able to give clear concise written and verbal reports
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrate professional independence
- Ability to conduct professional affairs in a confident, assertive manner, using negotiating skills.
- Good knowledge of complex conditions
- Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology underlying complex pathology
- Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management.
- Able to work at intense levels of concentration during most of the working day
- Able to work within a stressful and unpredictable environment
- Able to meet the travel requirements of the post

- Experience of lecturing externally
- Involvement in research
- Competency in extended scope practice in the specialism
- Experience of delivering clinical education in area of speciality
- Experience of working in an NHS environment as physiotherapist and MDT/ multi-agency working where relevant
