Role summary
As a Health Care Assistant in Cardiology, you will support healthcare practitioners with routine health activities and personal care, ensuring patient-focused care. Your duties include recording patient information, providing clinical support like taking observations and ECGs, and maintaining accurate fluid balance. You will also perform venepuncture and cannulation, and deliver excellent customer service to all patients and colleagues.
Key responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers, supporting holistic care.
- Carry out routine assessments, adapt care within set parameters, and report progress to senior staff.
- Assist in delivering care plans to support patients' health and well-being.
- Perform delegated tasks accurately and responsibly, including recording physiological observations, blood glucose, ECG, urinalysis, fluid balance, venepuncture and cannulation.
- Support patients with personal care, including bathing, toileting, eating, and drinking, and assist with patient mobility.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship - or equivalent experience
- Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
- Care Certificate
- Experience of working as a Care Support Worker or equivalent in a Health or Social care setting
- Experience of working within a team
- Good communication (written and verbal skills)
- Basic IT skills
- Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
- Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)
