Role summary
This role involves supporting the nursing team in delivering neonatal and family care across the Neonatal Service, including NICU and TCU. You will assist with daily care tasks such as feeding, nappy changes, and observations, as well as supporting during clinical procedures. The position also focuses on promoting family-integrated care, providing infant feeding support, and preparing parents for discharge. Effective communication and documentation are essential, alongside maintaining cleanliness and managing stock.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with daily care, including feeding (oral and potentially nasogastric tube feeding after training), nappy and skin care.
- Take and record observations such as respiratory rate, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, weight, and oxygen saturations, feeding back to the nurse responsible.
- Support nurses during various clinical procedures, providing comfort and support to the baby.
- Promote family-integrated care by actively involving and supporting parents in the care of their baby.
- Provide evidence-based support, assistance, and advice to mothers regarding infant feeding.
- Assist with the preparation of discharge plans and provide practical support and education to families for a smooth transition home.
Essential criteria
- Experience in direct care of babies or children
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Experience of dealing with members of the public
- Experience, knowledge and awareness of supporting infant feeding evident in application form
- Basic IT skills
- Clear and accurate written communication/documentation
- Numeracy skills (demonstrated through qualifications or experience)
- Ability to work as a team member
- Motivation and reliability
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Minimum NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or relevant health care topic at this level. Please clearly list your qualification, grade, level and date on your application. Applications where these are not clear will be discounted.

NICU HCSW
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, dynamic and motivated HCSW with a passion to work with babies and their families to join our CQC Outstanding rated team.
Shifts are 07:30-20:00 or 19:30 - 07:30. This will include fair rotation onto weekends, Bank holidays and night duties. You must be able to work a full range of shifts to apply for this post due to service needs.
