Role summary

This is an exciting full-time opportunity for an Assistant Financial Accountant within the Finance Department at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Based at Knowsley Community College, the role involves daily management of the Accounts Receivable team, providing monthly debt management analysis, and preparing Trust-wide balance sheet reconciliations. The successful candidate will also support internal and external audits and manage Accounts Receivable staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead debt management calls and agree action points with NHS Shared Business Services.
  • Negotiate with customers to recover debt in a timely manner.
  • Prepare management reports/analysis for Accounts Receivable to aid decision making.
  • Reconcile control accounts of the Trust on a monthly basis and monitor other staff's reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and information for year-end accounts and auditor evidence.
  • Undertake annual performance development reviews and day-to-day management of Accounts Receivable staff.

Essential criteria

  • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting and/or education or significant experience to degree level
  • Supervisory experience
  • Evidence of planning and organising tasks required to achieve a specific outcome within a specified timeframe without direction from line manager

  • Highly computer literate including MS Word, Excel, able to extract data, create and manipulate complex spreadsheets
  • Good standard of communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to nonfinance managers
