Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager to join the senior nursing team on ward 32/CCU. The role requires at least two years of Band 5 experience with recent Cardiology/CCU and cardiac day ward experience. You will lead the team, ensure high standards of patient care, and manage resources. The position involves developing leadership skills and receiving appropriate training and support.
Key responsibilities
- Take regular charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Manager.
- Ensure appropriate use of financial and other resources, supporting the ward manager in maintaining a balanced budget.
- Act as an expert practitioner within the appropriate speciality, participating in direct patient care and demonstrating an advanced level of practice and knowledge.
- Ensure the effective and timely admission and discharge of patients.
- Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
- Act as a preceptor and mentor to junior staff.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
- Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months
- Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be at Primary Nurse or equivalent
- Relevant Clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Student nurse assessor
- Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
- Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages

Job summary

Candidates will be expected to have at least two years band 5 experience with recent Cardiology/CCU and cardiac day ward experience to enable you to lead the team day to day and during an emergency.
Candidates will need to have completed ILS training or be booked in to complete it.
You should be a calm and approachable nurse who is wanting to develop their leadership skills. You will be expected to assist in managing the team and ensuring that our patients receive an excellent standard of care and to respond from feedback.
You will receive training appropriate to your role and will be supported throughout the secondment.
