Role summary
This role is for a Mental Health Liaison Practitioner at West Suffolk Hospital, working within the Mental Health Liaison team. The practitioner will support individuals attending the hospital with mental health difficulties, identify their needs, ensure effective care, and contribute to discharge planning. The service operates 24/7, requiring shift work, and involves working with various health professionals across the hospital.
Key responsibilities
- Support individuals attending West Suffolk Hospital with new or ongoing mental health difficulties.
- Identify and ensure effective meeting of patient needs whilst in hospital.
- Contribute towards timely and supportive discharge planning.
- Work in a fast-paced and busy environment, forging excellent working relationships with other health professionals.
- Work alongside colleagues in A&E, in-reach to wards, support substance misuse colleagues, and liaise with other mental health professionals.
Essential criteria
- Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse, Occupational Therapist OR Social Worker with the relevant professional registration
- Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor training (NMC registrants) or Practice Educator (AHP & Social Worker Registrants)
- Demonstrate effecive risk assessment and risk management experience
- Experience supervising others/students including preceptorship programme, student placements etc
- Experience of managing a caseload and the provision of Mental Health Care services to people with mental health care needs
- Competent assessment skills
- Conflict resolution and Breakaway training (or requirement to undertake within first 12 weeks)

- Recognised Leadership/Management training

Are you a skilled and experienced practitioner looking to join a passionate and dedicated team?
Our Mental Health Liaison team based at the West Suffolk Hospital (WSH) in Bury St Edmunds has an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker to join their fantastic team on a permanent part time basis.
This role is there to support those attending the WSH with new or ongoing mental health difficulties and illness; to identify their needs, ensuring these are met effectively whilst in hospital and to contribute towards timely/supportive discharge planning.
Our vital service operates 24/7, 365 days of the year which means will be expected to work a shift pattern.
