Role summary
This role leads clinical education, training, and professional development for theatre staff, including registered staff, healthcare assistants, assistant practitioners, and students. The post holder ensures all staff are appropriately trained and supported in their clinical practices. It involves acting as a professional role model, providing education programmes, and promoting continuous learning and excellent patient outcomes. The role combines clinical expertise, leadership, mentorship, and quality improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead clinical education, training, and professional development for theatre workforce.
- Ensure staff are appropriately trained and professionally supported in their clinical practices.
- Act as a supportive professional role model, providing education programmes and competency frameworks.
- Provide effective clinical and operational leadership within the theatre department, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Coordinate daily clinical activities, manage resources efficiently, and supervise staff development through appraisals and mentorship.
- Encourage evidence-based practice, participate in audit and quality improvement projects, and contribute to policy development.
Essential criteria
- Ability to develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or in difficult situations.
- Able to demonstate effective management, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Evidence of the ability to lead,manage,coordinate,delegate and motivate a theatre team and review performance.
- Understanding of the skills and knowledge required to develop team members.
- Experience of mentorship and an ability to identify learning and development needs.
- Qualification in ODP or RN
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Degree or equivalent experience
- Significant relevant theatre experience
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Documented evidence of a wide range of theatre skills
- Ability to demonstrate a mindset that embraces change as an opportunity
- Can demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise workload
- Flexible working shifts pattern including nights, weekends and on call
- Good general health and attendance record
- Ability to work with an unpredictable workload and deal with difficult situations when they arise

Job summary

The Theatre Education Team Leader will act as a supportive professional role model for nurses, operating department practitioner's (ODP's) and healthcare assistants providing education programmes, competency frameworks, preceptorship initiatives, and mandatory training.
